Car rental in Poland: questions from travellers

What to bring, how the deposit works, airport handover, driving in Polish cities and trips abroad, plus Quanta Flex, replacement cars and business rental. Short answers based on our rental terms.

Before you book

Which driving licence do I need to rent a car in Poland?

A licence valid in Poland for the category of car you book. A national or international licence issued outside the EU and EFTA must comply with the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic and must be recognised in Poland. Polish law limits how long such licences are recognised, so check that yours still applies for the length of your stay.

Which ID document do I show at handover?

A valid passport or national ID card, shown together with your driving licence when you collect the car. A residence card (karta pobytu) is not accepted as proof of identity. Electronic documents, such as those in the mObywatel app, are accepted only for Polish documents, so as a foreign visitor you need to bring the physical originals.

How old do I have to be to rent a car?

18 for most of the fleet, from the Škoda Fabia to SUVs such as the Opel Grandland, with a compulsory young driver surcharge under 21. From 21 you can also rent premium classes such as the Audi A4, Mercedes GLA and Toyota Camry, where the surcharge applies up to 25. Large SUVs, 9-seat minibuses and 3.5-tonne vans are available from 26.

Can I pay the deposit with a debit card?

For most cars, yes, if you buy the Komfort Plus package. A credit card is required for premium cars and large SUVs, such as the Audi A4, Mercedes GLA, Mercedes GLB and Volvo XC90. We accept Mastercard, VISA and American Express in your name, valid at least three months after the rental ends. Prepaid cards, Revolut, Maestro, ZEN and Girocard are not accepted.

Can someone else drive the car?

Yes, if they are named in the rental agreement and show a valid ID document and a driving licence valid in Poland at handover, just like you. An additional driver is an optional extra and its cost is shown when you book. The Platinium protection package includes the first additional driver at no extra charge.

Can I rent a car with a driver?

No. We do not offer a chauffeur service. You drive the car yourself, or a driver you name in the rental agreement does. If you need transport with a driver, for example from the airport to your hotel, book it with a taxi or transfer company instead.

Deposit and protection packages

How much is the deposit?

It depends on the car class: from 4,000 PLN for city cars such as the Škoda Fabia, 5,000 PLN for crossovers, estates and most SUVs, up to 10,000 PLN for large premium SUVs such as the Volvo XC90. The deposit equals the insurance excess. It is blocked on your card by pre-authorisation, not charged to your account.

Which protection packages can I buy?

Komfort, from 49 PLN per day, halves the deposit and excess. Komfort Plus, from 89 PLN, lowers the deposit to 400-1,000 PLN by class and covers glass, tyres and alloy wheels. Platinium, from 149 PLN, cuts the excess to 1 PLN in classes up to SUV and includes one extra driver and Zone I travel. You buy a package before handover, for the whole rental.

When does a protection package not cover damage?

When you drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, without a valid licence, more than 30 km/h over the speed limit, with more load or passengers than the registration certificate allows, after putting in the wrong fuel, or when the damage was caused deliberately or through gross negligence. In those cases you are liable regardless of the package.

Is mileage limited, and what is the fuel policy?

On daily rentals mileage is unlimited in every class, vans included. The car is handed over with at least a quarter tank and you return it with the same fuel level. You can also prepay for fuel when you book: you get a full tank and can return the car at any level.

Airports and delivery

Which airports do you deliver cars to?

Warsaw Chopin, Kraków Balice, Gdańsk and Wrocław. We do not have a desk: our driver meets you outside the terminal at the agreed time and calls you when they pull up. We do not serve Warsaw-Modlin Airport. If you land there, travel into Warsaw and arrange delivery to the Chopin terminal or to an address in the city.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Call us on +48 539 888 555 as soon as you know about the delay. We move the handover free of charge if the new time falls within our hours, 8:00-22:00 every day. Outside those hours a handover is possible as a paid extra, and its cost is shown when you book.

Can you deliver the car to my hotel, and can I return it somewhere else?

Yes. We deliver to the address you give us, such as a hotel or office, or to the airport terminal, every day 8:00-22:00. Delivery and a return to a different place than the pick-up are optional extras written into the agreement. Their cost is shown when you book and listed in the Table of Fees.

Driving in Poland

Can I drive into the clean transport zones in Warsaw and Kraków?

Warsaw's Clean Transport Zone has applied since 1 July 2024 to most of Śródmieście, and you can check a car by its registration number in the SprawdzSCT tool. Kraków's zone has applied since 1 January 2026, roughly within the fourth ring road, and Polish-registered cars are recognised automatically. No sticker is needed in either city. Gdańsk and Wrocław have no zone.

How do I pay for parking in Polish city centres?

Most city centres have a paid parking zone. In Warsaw it runs Monday to Friday, 8:00-20:00; in Kraków subzone A is paid every day, 9:00-22:00. You pay at a parking meter or in a mobile app. Parking charges are yours to pay, and if you register the car in a parking app, remove it by the end of the rental.

Who pays motorway tolls and fines?

You do. The renter pays tolls, for example on the toll section of the A4 motorway between Kraków and Katowice, as well as parking, clean transport zone charges and fines incurred during the rental. If we have to handle a fine or name the driver to the authorities, an administrative fee from the Table of Fees is added.

Driving abroad

Can I take the rental car to another country?

Yes, with our prior consent sent by email; verbal consent is not enough. Zone I covers Germany, Czechia, Slovakia and Lithuania, Zone II Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria and Luxembourg. Consent carries a fee from the Table of Fees, and the Platinium package includes Zone I. Tell us when you book, as the trip goes into the agreement.

Which countries are not allowed?

Any country outside Zone I and Zone II, including countries you would only pass through, so plan a route through zone countries. Driving to Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus or any country at war or under martial law is strictly forbidden. Leaving Poland without consent or entering a country not covered by it carries a contractual penalty.

Do I need extra equipment for driving abroad?

Possibly. Once you have our consent, it is your responsibility to equip the car, at your own cost, as required by the law of each country you drive in or through. You may add equipment, but you must not modify the car itself. Any other local formalities, such as rules on length of stay, are also yours to handle.

Contact and language

Do your staff speak English, and is there an English contract?

Our staff speak English on the phone, +48 539 888 555, every day 8:00-22:00. The General Terms of Vehicle Rental in English are available on our rental terms page for reference. The binding version is the current Polish one of 15 September 2025, so if anything is unclear, ask us before you sign.

How do I book, change or cancel a rental?

Book online in the search box, by phone on +48 539 888 555 or by email to rac@quantacars.pl. To change or cancel a booking, call us during our hours, 8:00-22:00 every day, or email rac@quantacars.pl. The cancellation and refund rules are set out on our rental terms page.

Booking and handover

Where do I collect the car?

Wherever you choose: at your home, office, hotel or the airport terminal. We keep cars all over Poland, and we confirm the address and time by phone when you book.

What are your handover hours?

Every day from 8:00 to 22:00, including Saturdays and Sundays. Handover or return outside these hours is possible by prior arrangement, for an extra fee.

Can I cancel my booking?

Yes, by phone on +48 539 888 555 or by e-mail to rac@quantacars.pl. If you cancel at least 30 days before the rental starts, we refund 80% of the booking payment, and at least 7 days before, 50%. The statutory right to withdraw from a distance contract does not apply to car rental for a fixed period.

What does the Komfort package cover?

It halves the deposit and your excess for the first damage. It costs from 49 PLN a day in classes A and B up to 109 PLN in the Premium SUV class. Komfort Plus adds glass, tyres and wheels, and you no longer have to return the car washed on the outside.

What is the shortest rental period?

One 24-hour period, counted from the hour of handover. If you need a car for several months, have a look at Quanta Flex.

When do I get my deposit back?

The deposit is a hold on your card, not a charge. We release it within 14 days of the return, provided the car comes back without new damage beyond normal wear and all charges are settled. It earns no interest.

Can I return the car early?

Yes, if you let us know in advance. We confirm the shorter rental with an annex to the agreement. Days that were paid for but not used are not refunded, so if your dates are uncertain it is better to book shorter and extend.

What happens if the car breaks down?

Call us, we take breakdown calls every day from 8:00 to 22:00. If the car is off the road for more than 2 hours for reasons beyond your control, we arrange a car of a similar segment, as a rule within 24 hours. If that is not possible, we refund the rent for the days without a car.

What documents do I need?

An ID card or passport and a driving licence valid in Poland for the category of the car. You also need a payment card in your name, valid for at least three months after the planned return date.

Can I extend the rental while I have the car?

Yes, but you need to tell us in advance and pay for the extension upfront. We may refuse if the car has another booking or an inspection is due. The card used for the deposit must also stay valid for three months after the new return date.

What if I return the car later than agreed?

We charge the rental for the extra time to the card used for the deposit hold. If you are running late, call us beforehand and extend the rental.

Quanta Flex: a car by the month

How does Quanta Flex differ from leasing?

With leasing you carry the servicing, the insurance and the car's value at the end of the contract. With Quanta Flex you pay one monthly fee and the car comes back to us. There is no multi-year commitment: you can end the contract in any month.

What is included in the price?

Inspections and warranty repairs, all-season tyres, third-party, comprehensive and personal accident insurance, a replacement car after a breakdown or collision, and help 7 days a week. What is left on your side is fuel and everyday use.

Can I change the car during the contract?

Yes. Every month you can swap the car for another in the same class, or move up a class for a surcharge. Write to flex@quantacars.pl or call us and we will agree a date for the swap.

How much does Quanta Flex cost?

The fee depends on the class and starts at 1,660 PLN net (2,041.80 PLN gross) a month for a city car such as the Škoda Fabia, up to 5,900 PLN net for large premium SUVs. The rate is the same for contracts from 1 to 12 months; longer contracts are priced individually. The deposit is the same as for daily rental, from 4,000 to 10,000 PLN.

How many kilometres can I drive?

2,500 km per month. Kilometres above the allowance are charged at the rate for the car, from 0.25 PLN in a Škoda Fabia to 0.80 PLN in large SUVs such as the Volvo XC90.

Who takes care of inspections?

We do. Report the inspection date to flota@quantacars.pl or by phone and we will book the workshop within two working days. The cost is included in the monthly fee.

Can I end the contract early?

Yes. You can end a Quanta Flex contract in any month, with no multi-year commitment. We collect the car from the address you give us.

What if the car breaks down?

Call +48 539 888 555. We take breakdown reports every day from 8:00 to 22:00. A replacement car for the duration of the repair is included in the monthly fee, as is the repair itself.

How much is the Quanta Flex deposit?

The same as for daily rental, from 4,000 to 10,000 PLN depending on the class. It is a hold on your card, not a charge. The Komfort and Komfort Plus packages reduce it.

Replacement car after an accident

Who pays for the replacement car?

The insurer of the driver who caused the collision. We settle with them directly, so you pay nothing at handover and do not wait for a refund. If your car was a business vehicle, your company covers the VAT on the rent, which it can deduct.

Do I have to pay a deposit?

No. For a replacement car covered by the at-fault driver's insurance we take no deposit and no payment. We settle directly with the insurer on the basis of the authorisation you sign at handover.

How long can I keep the replacement car?

For the period the at-fault insurer has accepted; you agree that date with the claims handler. If the repair takes longer, arrange an extension with us in advance, because after that date the insurer no longer pays for the rental.

What happens if the insurer refuses to pay?

As the party to the rental agreement, you then pay the amount due within 7 days of our request. That is why we check the claim and the documents before handing over the car.

What class of car will I get?

One from the same segment as your car. It is roadworthy, clean and has unlimited mileage.

Do I need comprehensive cover to get a replacement car?

No. A replacement car under the at-fault driver's liability insurance has nothing to do with your own policy. It comes from the liability of the person who caused the collision, whether or not you have comprehensive cover.

Will you bring the car to my home or to the garage?

Yes. We deliver the replacement car to the place you choose anywhere in Poland, usually within about 2 hours of your request, depending on the location. When the rental ends, we collect it from the address you give us.

Can I keep the car longer than the insurer accepted?

Yes, if you agree it with us before the accepted period ends. The extra time is no longer covered by the insurer, so you pay for it in advance, as with a normal rental.

Business and van rental

Do you issue VAT invoices?

Yes, to the company details given at booking.

Do you sign framework agreements?

Yes. For regular rentals we sign a framework agreement with an individual discount, and your company gets an account manager who handles its rentals. Get in touch through the contact form.

Can we pay on deferred terms?

No. Each rental is paid upfront by bank transfer, card, BLIK, Google Pay or Apple Pay, and we invoice your company.

Can several employees drive the same car?

Yes. The company as renter names the drivers in the agreement. Each of them needs an ID document and a driving licence valid in Poland and must meet the minimum age for the car class. Anyone not named in the agreement may not drive the car.

Do you offer rentals for several months?

Yes, Quanta Flex. The monthly fee covers servicing, tyres, insurance, Assistance and fleet management. The allowance is 2,500 km a month and we agree the terms individually.

Do you rent vans and 9-seaters?

Yes: large vans up to 3.5 tonnes (Maxus Deliver, Peugeot Boxer, Ford Transit, Mercedes Sprinter) and 9-seat minibuses (Toyota Proace, Ford Transit Custom). All on a category B licence, for drivers aged 26 and over.

Where do you deliver the car?

To the address you give us, such as your office or an employee's home, and to the terminals at Warsaw Chopin, Kraków Balice, Gdańsk and Wrocław airports. We hand cars over every day from 8:00 to 22:00.

Can an employee collect the car on behalf of the company?

Yes, if they are named in the agreement. With a power of attorney they collect and return the car for the company and sign the handover and return reports. They show an ID document and a driving licence valid in Poland.

What if someone damages our company car?

We provide a replacement car and settle the rental with the at-fault driver's insurer. For a company car, the VAT on the rental is covered by the company, because it can deduct it.

Do I need a category C licence for a van?

No. All our vans stay within the 3.5-tonne limit, so a category B licence is enough. This includes the 9-seat minibuses.

How much fits in a large van?

It depends on the model. For example, a Peugeot Boxer L3H2 has about 13 m³ of load space: 3.7 m long, 1.9 m high and 1.4 m between the wheel arches. Payload is about 1.3 tonnes, depending on the version. It usually takes the contents of a studio or small flat.

Can I rent a van for one day?

Yes, billing is per 24-hour period counted from the hour of handover. For a house move one day is often enough, and we can deliver the van to the address you are moving out of.

When do I get the deposit back?

Within 14 days of returning the vehicle, if it comes back with no new damage beyond normal wear and everything due under the agreement has been paid. The deposit is a hold on your card, not a charge.
