We have gathered the questions most often asked by people who fly into Poland or live here for a short time and want to rent a car. Most problems at handover come down to three things: your identity document, your driving licence and the card for the deposit. The full rules are also available in our English rental terms.
Identity document
When you collect the car, you show a valid national ID card or passport. We do not accept a Polish residence card (karta pobytu) as an identity document, even if you use it for everyday official matters. If you live in Poland on a residence card, bring your passport to the handover.
We accept documents in electronic form only for Polish documents checked in the mObywatel app. A foreign passport, ID card and driving licence must be with you as physical originals. A photo of a document on your phone is not enough.
Driving licence
The rental terms require a driving licence that is valid and recognised in Poland and entitles you to drive a car of the class you booked. The same applies to everyone who is going to drive the car, not just the renter.
The rental terms expressly mention national or international driving licences issued outside the European Union and EFTA, provided they comply with the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic of 8 November 1968. Recognition of such documents is subject to time limits set by law.
If several people are going to drive, each of them must be named in the agreement and show their own identity document and a driving licence meeting the same conditions at handover. A driver who is not on the agreement may not drive the car. With the Platinium package, the first additional driver is included in the price.
Driver age
From the age of 18 you can rent most of the fleet, from the Škoda Fabia to SUVs such as the Opel Grandland. From 21 you can also rent premium cars, for example the Audi A4 and Mercedes GLA. Large premium SUVs, 9-seat minibuses and 3.5-tonne vans are available to drivers aged 26 and over.
Drivers under 21, and drivers aged 21-25 renting premium cars, must add the Young driver service. You see its cost when you book.
Payment card and deposit
The card is used to block the deposit and must be issued in the name of the person signing the agreement. It must be valid for at least three months after the planned end of the rental. We accept Mastercard, VISA and American Express.
For the deposit we do not accept prepaid cards or Revolut, Maestro, ZEN and Girocard cards. This is a common problem for travellers, because Revolut is often their main card abroad. Check this before you fly, not when you are standing next to the car.
In most classes a debit card is enough if you buy the Komfort Plus package. It lowers the deposit to amounts starting at 400 PLN, so the block does not freeze a large sum. Premium cars and large SUVs, for example the Audi A4, Mercedes GLC or Volvo XC90, require a credit card.
We release the block within 14 days of the car's return, provided it comes back without new damage. When the money becomes available again depends on the bank that issued your card, so if you leave Poland right after returning the car, expect the block to still be visible after you get home.
Collecting the car without knowing the city
We do not have desks in the arrivals halls. We drive up to the terminal at Warsaw Chopin, Kraków-Balice, Gdańsk or Wrocław airport at the agreed time and hand the car over on the spot. In cities, we deliver the car to your hotel, the railway station or another address you give us.
We arrange the meeting point by phone, and our staff member calls you when they arrive. Our team speaks English, and the phone line is open every day from 8:00 to 22:00. You sign the agreement electronically and receive the full set of documents by email.
Fines, road tolls and leaving Poland
You pay motorway tolls, car parks and paid parking zones yourself. Fines and penalties from the rental period are also charged to the renter, including those that arrive after you have left. If we name you as the driver to the authorities, we also charge the administrative fee set out in the Table of Fees.
Taking the car abroad requires our consent sent by email. Zone I covers Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Lithuania; Zone II covers Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria and Luxembourg. The consent is a one-off paid service, and the price depends on the zone.
Travel to Russia, Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus is strictly prohibited, as is travel to any country where armed conflict is taking place. Leaving Poland without consent, or going to a country outside both zones, means a contractual penalty, and the cars are fitted with GPS trackers.
